Filipino creativity has never needed permission to lead. For generations, Filipino artists and creators have shaped music, style, storytelling, and culture, often long before the rest of the world knew where those influences came from. Makeeta was born from a simple belief: Filipino creativity shouldn't have to wait for the world to catch up.

THE LINEAGE IS REAL

This didn't start with us. In the 90s, artists like Jocelyn Enriquez, Pinay, and One Vo1ce were building audiences and breaking through at a time when Filipino representation in mainstream music was rare. In the 2000s, artists like AJ Rafael, Jeremy Passion, and Melissa Polinar used a new generation of digital platforms to build audiences on their own terms. Today, Filipino artists and creators continue to shape culture across music, entertainment, fashion, food, design, and beyond. Every generation found a way forward. What hasn't always existed is the infrastructure, investment, relationships, and spaces around that creativity to help it build into something larger.

That's the space Makeeta was created to work in.

WHERE MAKEETA BEGAN

Makeeta began with visibility. The name itself comes from makita, the Tagalog word meaning "to be seen." At the beginning, the question was simple: how do we create more opportunities for Filipino artists to be seen, heard, and known? But the deeper we got into the work, the clearer something became. Visibility alone wasn't enough. Artists needed more than exposure. Brands needed more than access. And Filipino communities deserved more than campaigns designed around them instead of relationships built with them. So the idea grew. Makeeta became a place where artists and creators could build from who they already are, where brands could learn how to participate with intention, and where new collaborations, experiences, and cultural properties could be created from within the community rather than around it. What started with being seen became a bigger pursuit: belonging.

THE MEANING BEHIND MAKEETA

The identity of Makeeta carries that story with it. The name, the sun, the eye, and the binetwagan are rooted in Filipino history and identity, but each also represents something about the company we're building today.

THE NAME

To be seen, heard, and known.

Makeeta is derived from the Tagalog word makita, meaning "to be seen." That idea is where we started and remains part of why we exist. Filipino voices deserve to be visible, valued, and recognized for what they contribute.

THE LOGOMARK

The Sun and the Eye.

Our mark reimagines the Philippine sun alongside an eye representing visibility, vision, and perspective. The sun keeps Makeeta connected to where we come from. The eye reminds us to pay attention to who is shaping culture, how communities are changing, and what others might overlook. Together, they represent a company rooted in Filipino culture while always looking toward what's next.

THE BINETWAGAN

Weaving Culture, Connection, and Craft.

The binetwagan is a traditional Ilocano weave known for its strength and intricate construction. Its patterns carry real symbolic meaning, protection, prosperity, connection to home. And for the diaspora today, the act of weaving itself has become a way of holding onto an identity that distance and history tried to erase, families rediscovering, generations later, that this craft was always theirs. For Makeeta, it represents connection. Different threads retain what makes them distinct while becoming stronger through what they create together. That's how we think about artists, creators, brands, and community. The goal isn't to flatten those differences. It's to find the places where they can come together and build something that couldn't exist otherwise.

Today, we're building something bigger than where we started: a company where Filipino artists and creators can build from who they are, brands can participate with intention, and communities can experience work that feels like it belongs. The culture has always been here. We're building more ways for people to contribute to what comes next.
